Executive Functioning

Executive functions let individuals manage their thoughts, actions, and emotions to complete tasks and/or problem-solve. Students who struggle with weak executive functioning skills can be challenged by:

  • Planning out their work (short and long-term)

  • Organization

  • Initiating a plan or task, sticking to the plans they make

  • Time management

  • Monitoring to see whether or not they achieved the goals they initially set out for themselves

  • Following directions

  • Remembering instructions

  • Decision-making
